TEF-Health Sweden

The Swedish node of the European TEF-Health consortium is coordinated by Karolinska Institutet, a world-renowned medical university, in collaboration with RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden.

We provide access to services across Europe to support the development of AI for healthcare.
We also provide local services in Sweden.

Our local expertise

Partners in the Swedish TEF-Health node contributes with services both locally and to the entire European market.
SMAILE – Stockholm Medical Artificial Intelligence and Learning EnvironmentsSMAILE is a Karolinska Institutet core facility that provides full AI development pipeline from concept to validation, regulatory guidance and MDR compliance, bias audits, clinical trial design, investment-ready evidence.
SciLifeLabA state-of-the-art national infrastructure for life science in fields such as biomedicine, ecology, and evolution. Collaboration is a central part of SciLifeLab, involving partners in healthcare, academia, industry and international communities. The aim is to enable life science research that would otherwise not be possible.
RISE – Research Institutes of SwedenRISE is state-owned and offers unique expertise and over 100 testbeds and demonstration environments nation-wide. Our mission is to support innovative development such as AI solutions in SME companies
CIR – Centre for Imaging ResearchThe Centre for Imaging Research is a world-leading imaging centre at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital, offering a unique collection of core facilities and expertise with an edge in cancer, neurology and translational brain imaging.

TEF-Health is initiated by the European Union to accelerate safe, scalable, and impactful deployment of AI technologies driving the future of healthcare.

With over 50 partners in 9 countries – including top hospitals, research institutes, and certification experts – TEF-Health provides a single-entry point to extensive tests on your AI and robotics solutions within real or realistic environments.

We also offer support by experts to make your solutions compliant with the EU AI-Act and other regulations.

Part of EU's AI strategy 

TEF-Health is part of the Digital Europe Programme, and is co-funded by the European Commission in collaboration with several Member States.
It is also intended as an instrument to implement the AI Act.

Real-world testing

TEF-Health is one of the European Union's sectorial testing facilities (TEFs) – specialised large-scale reference sites open to AI developing companies and other innovators to test AI solutions in real-world environments.

We have special offerings for SME who can access novel validation and experimentation services that are not yet established in the market at discounted prices.
